Typical scenario

A switch powers cameras separately but not all together

If each camera works alone on the supplied switch but some ports receive no power when connected together, adding port maxima is insufficient. The shared PoE budget can differ. Preserve installed power supplies, priority settings and system power-allocation messages for acceptance testing.

What needs to be clarified

Check simultaneous supply to the agreed load, distinguish port limits, total budget and reserved power, and compare the actual switch configuration with explicit procurement requirements.

Materials to prepare

  • Switch with installed power supplies and exported configuration
  • Procurement specification and camera power requirements
  • Port-connection log, system messages and cable-line diagram

What to compare

Check the budget for the installed configuration, port limits and power negotiation with each camera. Separate allocated power from current measurements, considering cable losses and startup order. Keep lines and settings constant in controlled comparisons. Determine failure from combined logs and tests; not every lost image means PoE shutdown.

Possible outcome of the analysis

A power-allocation table and combined-load record may assess the tested requirement, configuration limits and further checks of power supplies, lines or connected devices.

Limits of the conclusions

One working camera does not establish total budget. A particular load does not represent all devices; the technical report does not determine legal consequences of acceptance.
